About

Artist Statement

Through collecting materials and imagery from childhood pop culture, I construct alternative compositions that twist nostalgic feelings into new discoveries. What appears playful on the surface reveals more complex layers—confronting desire, memory, and the darker undercurrents of innocence lost. Each piece invites both viewer and artist to question what we choose to remember and why.

Brian Campbell is a Texas-based artist living in Montgomery, TX, whose work is deeply influenced by the onslaught of 1980s pop culture imagery. Growing up in Dickinson, TX, he spent his formative years immersed in Saturday morning cartoons, action figures, comic books, and the vibrant art of skateboarding culture.

With nearly 30 years of experience in graphic design and creative direction, Brian brings a refined eye for storytelling and composition to his printmaking practice. His work has been featured in exhibitions including Satellite Ranch at SXSW, The Big Show at the Lawndale Art Center, Williams Tower Gallery, Houston Art Fair at Reeves Gallery, and most recently at Satellite Ranch during SXSW 2025.

Through woodcuts, linocuts, and screenprints, Brian twists the innocence of childhood memories, blending nostalgic imagery with subversive undertones. The result is a collision of playfulness and darker emotion, inviting viewers to confront the complex intersection of whimsy, desire, and the shadows lurking beneath our fondest memories.
